Since even before I joined the guild in a full raiding capacity, I’ve been the one guy with Fraps running 24/7. From Chromaggus to Archimonde, I’ve made my best effort to chronicle the accomplishments of Blue Garter through seven tiers of raid instances and the occasional PvP escapade. My own collection of the movies I’ve made, which is sadly lacking one or two films, amounts to a 14-gigabyte record of the great times we’ve had as a guild. Since 14 gigs is a lot, and admittedly not all of those 14 gigs are cinema gold, I’d like to present my five favorite videos to commemorate our new website and our new presence as a raiding guild in 3.0.
5. BG Reject Footage Bonanza
19:11 | 684mb XViD | 960×600
This video was actually a byproduct of a larger project, FFXI SUX LOL, which didn’t make this list. That hastily titled project was by far the biggest I’ve assembled, and when it was finished I still had 50gb of unused footage. A year or two later, I finally decided to throw a lot of that footage together into this film. Surprisingly, I’m more fond of this video than the one that was filmed over several months and took 3 straight days to edit. It moves a lot faster and with a lighter tone, and having been released as BG’s TBC raiding era was coming to a close and the future of the guild was in question, it showed us once again how good it felt to be the gangsters of Azshara.

4. BG vs. Letalis vs. Lethon
17:43 | 948mb WMV | 1280×800
Speaking of the gangsters of Azshara, this video shows a bygone era where guilds competed hotly over world bosses because killing them was directly linked to progression in AQ40. Some things about it were bad, but some were fun as hell, and it’s a shame that Wrath has no world bosses and the newer generation of WoW players won’t get to experience the thrilling convergence of PvE and PvP. I had a tough choice to make between this and our glorious battle against France in Emeriss, but ultimately the Letalis cavalry charge and our George Washington maneuvers sealed the deal.

3. BG vs. The Twin Emperors
7:57 | 378mb WMV | 1280×800
This is an earlier video, and in fact it’s the first I made while playing Dewoto, coming after a long lapse between then and the end of BWL. There’s no fancy special effects or attempts at scoring with other peoples’ music. It simply shows the fight - it transports the viewer into that attempt and conveys all the suspense and excitement of what was one of the closest and most exhilarating kills in the history of the guild.

2. BG vs. Archimonde
11:12 | 491mb XViD | 1280×720
I quit a little before the drama that briefly tore the guild asunder toward the end of TBC, and this video shows the last major accomplishment that I was a part of in TBC. I still feel that it’s the last WoW video I’ve made that hasn’t been completely half-assed. Archimonde struck a great balance between fun and challenge, and our winning attempt was superbly executed. And the Spanish Kaplan bit at the beginning was just a whole lot of fun to make.

1. BG vs. Loatheb
11:28 | 369mb XViD | 960×600
Loatheb is a historical curiosity. It’s very unlikely that such a logistical nightmare will ever be sprung upon us again. Pain in the ass though it was, we sure had fun with it. Unlike every other kill video, this one was made in hindsight, long after the kill took place, with some previously lost footage discovered in the Czech film archive. Rather than focusing on the 8 minutes of concentration and flawless repetition, this video emphasizes the preparation, showing a glimpse of the banter and the camaraderie that permeated the other 90% of our raid time, as well as illustrating to future generations how ridiculous world buffing really was.

Enjoy them, and I look forward to (hopefully) making more in the months to come.
